Incompetent Cervix

Incompetent cervix is a condition that may lead to the loss of the unborn baby in the second trimester(18-20 weeks). This condition occurs when the cervix dilates without any contractions, and the cervix is not strong enough to withstand the pressure of the growing baby.

Cerclage, a procedure to stitch the cervix shut, may be performed to help reinforce the cervix and allow for the continuation of the pregnancy.
